  • We create a transformative classroom environment – preparing students ages five to post-graduate level to think critically about the political process using small groups to problem solve and resolve conflict.
  • We encourage the development of reasoned individual opinions about civic engagement and civil responsibility using our Constitution as the framework for deliberation. Some topics to consider include: US Supreme Court decisions, LGBT issues, the origins of civil rights, affirmative action, voting reform, drug law reform, school vouchers, church-state issues, civil liberties, due process, death penalty, dignity for all students, reproductive law, empowering the Deaf and hard-of-hearing, and many more.
  • We interview policy makers, pundits, educators, and other people engaged in effecting public policy issues on our cable television show in Jacksonville, Florida entitled, civil discourse. See below to view programs.

Our Philosophy or Why We Do What We Do

The seriousness and diversity of the issues and questions surrounding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights make for stimulating debates and discussions. Civication, Inc. believes that our representative democracy works best with informed, engaged participation. We are the government and the government is us — that is, We The People means — you and me.


Think about it — the government regulates many of our daily actions, from the air we breathe to the food we eat, to which wars we will engage. Political life is the medium we live in – therefore; we need to understand the process by which our government functions and learn to enjoy being part of the process that affects each of our lives daily.

The time is right for Civication, Inc. We want to explore and discuss such core issues as the rule of law, separation of powers, checks and balances, minority rights, the Bill of Rights, as well as the ideas of political, legal, and economic equality. We can and must continue to debate the issues of the day and know the core constitutional values and concepts that form our society.

Since the inception of the We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution program in 1987, more than 28 million students and 90 thousand educators have participated in this innovative course of study. Several Studies by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and Professor Richard Brody, Stanford University, indicate that students who used the curriculum “significantly outperformed comparison students” on every topic studied.” A recent study, conducted by the independent firm RMC Research Corporation, found that students using the curriculum scored significantly higher on a comprehensive test of political knowledge when compared to their peers in comparison classes as well as university students attending political science courses. The program

enjoys the active participation of members of Congress, as well as support from professional, business, and community organizations across the nation.  Program participants can maintain contact with the Center and with one another through the We the People alumni network.

Service-Learning: What is Service Learning?

According to the Learn and Serve Clearinghouse:

“Service-learning combines service objectives with learning objectives with the intent that the activity change both the recipient and the provider of the service. This is accomplished by combining service tasks with structured opportunities that link the task to self-reflection, self-discovery, and the acquisition and comprehension of values, skills, and knowledge content.”

  • Promotes learning through active participation in service experiences
  • Provides structured time for students to reflect by thinking, discussing and/or writing about their service experience
  • Provides an opportunity for students to use skills and knowledge in real-life situations
  • Extends learning beyond the classroom and into the community
  • Fosters a sense of caring for others (as adapted from the National and Community Service Act of 1990).

At Civication, Inc., we believe service-learning is indispensable to the success of the deaf and hard-of-hearing student. Since deaf students will most likely be working in a “hearing” environment, learning to communicate and interact with the non-deaf world is essential for success.

With a service-learning approach, the deaf students will gain valuable social skills and confidence in navigating in a professional work place. In addition, businesses will learn how deaf workers can contribute to the diversity and productivity of the work force.

We the People: Project Citizen is a curricular program for middle, secondary, and post-secondary students, youth organizations, and adult groups that promotes competent and responsible participation in local and state government. The program helps participants learn how to monitor and influence public policy. In the process, they develop support for democratic values and principles, tolerance, and feelings of political efficacy. The Project Citizen program is administered with the assistance of a national network of state and congressional district coordinators in every state and is conducted with the assistance of the National Conference of State Legislatures. It is funded by the U.S. Department of Education by act of Congress. Additional funding at the state level is also provided by an increasing number of state legislatures.
